If you are planning a cruise to Cabo Mexico, you are probably wondering what to do during your day at each cruise port. Cabo Mexico is a popular cruise port of the Mexican Riviera that sails year-round from Long Beach, California.

At the cruise port, there are dozens of boats waiting to take tourists on Boat Tours. Most likely it will be hard to avoid someone trying to sell you a tour, so it is easy to find them!

Cabo Mexico Glass Bottom Water Taxi

I chose a glass bottom taxi for the tour. Boat tours or “Water Taxis” will take you to see the beautiful rock formations at Lands End. Many of the formations have been named by locals by the shapes they resemble such as an animal or even cartoon a character!

In the below picture, can you see the deer drinking water??

Some tours will also take you snorkeling as a part of the tour deal.  I got a deal to pay 40 dollars for two people for a tour of the rock formations. This included a stop at Pelican Rock Beach to snorkel.

Pelican Rock Snorkeling – Learn From My Mistake!

Pelican Rock is a very small “beach” near the rock formations. Some tour boats will drop you off to snorkel and come back and get you. I went snorkeling there. I thought the water was a bit too choppy and I was not all that comfortable snorkeling there. Considering there are large boulders of rocks in the water and waves crashing in, I did not think it was a good idea to stay in the water since I am not that great of a swimmer. There was some fish in the water, but the area is fairly small so I didn’t find snorkeling worth the time.

The tour takes about 45 minutes (without snorkeling). After the boat tour, you have plenty of time to lounge on the beach, have a Margarita and eat Mexican Food at one of the many restaurants in Cabo.

Tip: Ask the water taxi to drop you off at the beach instead of the marina. Hopefully your tour boat already has it planned to drop you off at the beach area, but if not, they may charge you five to ten dollars extra, but trust me, you don’t want to walk! It is farther to get around than it looks and why waste the day walking!

Should you book a tour ahead of time?

From my experience, I sometimes get better tour excursion deals from private companies waiting at the port, than I do from pre-booked tours.  You have to be ready to negotiate so that is a trade-off for trying to catch a deal. If that is not your thing, booking a tour in advance is best for you.

If snorkeling is your main focus, I recommend Santa Maria beach or Chileno Bay if time allows. You can read more about both beaches here (Chileno Bay – Best Snorkeling near Cabo) and here(Santa Maria vs Chileno Bay).
