During my trip to New Orleans, I was able to appreciate the vibrant and diverse culture of New Orleans, the people and oh my goodness – the food!

Crawfish, oysters, bread putting, fried chicken, Creole etouffee, gumbo, and beignets! So much to love about New Orleans cuisine. In this post, I’ll a share a few of the best New Orleans foodie experiences to have when you travel to the Big Easy.

Best New Orleans Foodie Experiences

#1 A Crawfish and Seafood Boil

When I travel, I like to experience the cuisine and eat what is unique to that area. The seafood in NOLA is a must! I had my first crawfish experience which took some getting used to because it was creepy looking to me.

It requires breaking the head off from the body and peeling off the shell to get to the delicious tail of the crawfish. Once I got past my initial feelings of being grossed out, it was delicious!

Try crawfish in New Orleans - Its one of the best New Orleans foodie experiences to have while in NOLA.

A great seafood boil is a must when traveling to New Orleans. Try the Kenner Seafood House for an awesome seafood boil.

Crawfish tastes similar to lobster but less chewy and tough. The crawfish is boiled in creole seasonings which gives it an explosion of flavor! I ate at Kenner Seafood which is about 30 min from New Orleans. It was a recommendation from the locals we met that day.

The crawfish is ordered by the pound. The above picture above is about two pounds. However, most of the weight is the shells so it’s not as much as it seems!

If you get out of the French Quarter and the tourist areas, the prices get better too, especially for seafood boils. We went to Kenner Seafood Co and loved it. The locals recommended it. Glad we listened!

Seafood in New Orleans will send you to foodie heaven!

#2 FRESH GULF OYSTERS!!

I live in California so we have oysters, but they tend to be very salty and briney. I was told NOLA oysters which are taken from the Gulf of Mexico are much different and really good. I tried them and it’s so true!

I had dozens of oysters during my trip. The oysters are fresh and less slimy and briney than the ones I have tried on the west coast.

I made it to a happy hour spot for .75 oysters. I highly recommend Superior Seafood and Oyster Bar which had the freshest oysters I had during my entire stay in New Orleans. They were also cleaned out very well and it was fun sitting at the Oyster Bar while they chucked the oysters.

This oyster was as big as my hand!

Oysters in New Orleans is oh so good! This is a New Orleans foodie experience you don't want to miss out on.
